This is not a simple question. Even by knowing the time during which the climber accelerated him/her self it is not possible to know the peak force, since there is no way that the force is constantly applied during the dyno process.
The business about the arc is a bit misleading since it is simple to determine the required velocity at the point at which the climber lets go of the hold in order that he reach the second hold. The impossible part of this question is the part leading up to him letting go in the first place.
You can integrate force over distance (the total force as refered to by Brat) but this gives you energy and is in units of Joules, ie (kgm^2/s^2).
The only way to find the answer to the original problem would be to attach the takeoff hold to a load cell and test it experimentally. |
