There is certainly the tendency in climbing, as in any activity that we love doing to adopt a more is better ... or never quite enough approach. We always want another shot on that route or boulder problem, thrash ouselves stupid in the gym or think that a weeks climbing trip means that we have to go as hard as possible for 7 days straight.
I also tend to think that climbers are very bad at listening to their bodies and heeding ths signs that less could in fact be more, and long term, result in better climbing performance.
The nature of climbing is such that we place some pretty extreme forces through body structures that are perhaps not really designed to take such punishment. However if we take a more long term view with our "training / climbing" and the process of adaptation we might "live to play another day".
