Bah humbug! If you had your belay device attached to a whopping great tree, then yes, this idea holds, but it's attached to a mobile belayer. Provided the belayer is pulled into the fall, or better yet, uses a dynamic belaying technique (jumps into the fall slightly), there is little to recommend a plate device over an autolocking device for trad. |
