Yep, and I like the idea of email addresses only being visible to other members.

It's kind of annoying having a record of everything you've said attached to your name though. I've seen a few flame wars on rec.climbing get out of hand, and people start Googling and dredging up 3-year-old posts out of context. In some cases it gets quite personal.

I can respect that, but for some people perhaps the perceived disadvantages outweigh the advantages. Or perhaps they're just shy.

I was a bit disappointed in another thread to see people using the privilege of anonymity to abuse others. But it's good to be able to speak my mind without anyone forming preconcieved notions based on my identity. You can probably guess someone's identity if you know them anyhow...
