The supplement thing (as in protein "UBER MUSCLE" stuff) is all bollocks.
I'm not saying it doesn't contain 30gms of protein per serve or that is isn't real protien. I'm saying its just bollocks that you need to buy that stuff when you'll get more than enough protein from a healthy diet. This is a flow-on from the gym and fitness industry and all the other bollocks that is thrown around when it comes to strength training and conditioning. Most big lifters i've met (500lb squats, 300lb bench etc) don't eat this stuff.
Use the supplements as convenience (expensive convenience) if you must miss a meal, but if you have the time and facilities you are better off having a decent snack and getting all the nutrients you need from real food.
BTW if you really, really do passionately believe that this expensive stuff will give you gains, then, it probably will. But now we are delving into sport psychology.
It won't kill you, though protein poisoning won't make you function your best. Just remember you don't need it - and the real insult (after you buy the expensive stuff) is that you wee most of it out.

Not trying to be smug, I also was conned and used to drink/eat the stuff when I was younger and it did stuff all.

Save your money for climbing trips
