when does a rope no longer be deemed to be safe. I have an old rack and ropes and wonder if the are still safe to use always kept in a pack in a cupboard in a cool room. I had an old rope that had supposedly reached it use by date 20 years ago and i kept in a shed in light and exposed to dirt etc I used to drop a tree branch that was easily 300 kg which fell 5 to 6 metres before being held on the rope . later it actually broke when i tied a tractor to it to stablize a willow tree i had to drop but not over a fence it partially worked until a wind gust hit and stopped it falling sideways as hoped .
