Edwin Young was the other member of the expedition.

The trip was a fantastic experience for everyone. Russ Crowe had originally done a reconnaissance of the island by plane and he is the custodian of the climbing records but many many new routes were done on big clean cliffs.

We chartered a fishing boat to take us to Erith Island and arranged for the boat to come and pick us up after one month - most of us were sea sick on the way over. As the island was uninhabited we took basic necessities such as beer and fags (fags became a tradable commodity after a while) and 'lived off the sea' for protein.

We had CB radio contact with the lighthousekeeper on Deal Island in case of emergency. But apart from that we were on our own - apart from the fairy penguins and possums - who all eventually were given names by an ever creative Mick Hampton - that is.
