Ok, I'll get it for making a generalisation but..... It seems that most gym climbs are sustained at the grade whereas outdoor climbs are graded on the crux or length. Particularly leading indoor as against sport routes, it seems that outdoors most bolts are placed prior to a hard or exposed move whereas indoors every move can be at that grade therefore no respite! Plus as stated, outdoors, particularly on lower grades you can possibly have a number of possible alternate holds? Especially if you are climbing grades below your ability! PS to the positioning of anchors, I agree, my girlfriend has an issue with a lot of placements, more girlie bits to get caught, hair etc.
