"Museum tour" That is a great analogy.
I was thinking more along the lines of the Sydney aquarium. Where you travel along in a tube underwater, totally insulated from the environment you are traveling through. I think this will ultimately be where Everest tourism end up. Thousands of people per day could be travelated up and down through the tube. There will be an internet cafe at the top and you be able to "send an email from the top of the world - only 280USD per minute". There will be a summit board painted with mountaineers outfits that you can stick you head through for a "summit shot - only 320USD".

The sierra club's militant wing will soon organise 'missions' up everest to sabotage attempts at commercialisation, using downsuit ruining "nail traps" and by hacksawing 95% through the fixed steps so they will fail when a trail bike is ridden up them. The sierra club also has 75 places for fee paying ecoterroristtourists who want to be guided up the mountain and 'help' carry out the mission - 125000USD, price includes biodegradable oxygen cylinders/fixed protection, helicopter air lift and all the nail boards you can place.
