In this day and age, we've come to expect a certain degree of comfort and 'service' as climbers in a broader climbing community. This takes the form of climbs put up by others who then tell us where they are, degree of difficulty, maybe rap chains, etc., etc.
But are there valid reasons for not making a guide available or climbs known?
The most obvious reason will undoubtedly be that the crag/mountain is closed and off limits, but one has only to look on thecrag.com to see quite a few listings of climbs at crags that are closed. This is regarded as general info or even historical info in some cases.
What I'm interested in here, by opening this debate, are the pros and cons of having a guide broadly available and out there, contra hand around or even verbal 'guides'.
