The aboriginal correction facility is planned for the property where Split Rock is. There are only a couple of low value climbs there & it shouldn't prevent climbing in the other areas.

Locals on the neighbouring properties have some serious concern. My understanding is that the facility is to be low security so the residents will be free to wander around. One of the main concerns is fire risk. Access to the area is poor, water is limited and there is an enormous fuel load in the area.

The other concern is obviously security. My understanding is that the facility is for low risk juveniles, but we are still talking about people with criminal history. One of the neighbouring houses is only 100m away from the property.

Unfortunately because the facility is for aboriginals some sections of the media have portrayed objectors as racist. I know this is not the case for the locals I know. The issue is whether or not this is an appropriate location for a corrections facility. I think it isn't primarily because of fire risk.

On a possitive note; if the facility was to proceed maybe climbing could be a worthwhile activity for the residents.
