as a "average" climber i sometimes feel somewhat discouraged when you constantly see or hear about the higher grades climber and the general focus on these grades.
Just interested in doing a poll on the average grades everyone leads....

Could you define "average grades everyone leads" a bit more? Like do you mean our harder leads - the ones climbed on a good day (or exceptional day), or just the ones done more comfortably on an "average" day out? If you know what I mean.

I assume you mean current ability too.

by average i mean what you can do on an average day..a comfortable day....and in your current ability...if instance...i've been climbing for 10 odd year..
after my first couple i was really comfortable at 21-22, had a lot of time off and wife kids etc and now i could still possibly do those grades but am only really comfortable at about 18..

Climb whatever you enjoy, bugger the grades, or what anybody else is climbing.

I know what you mean hangdoggy

Reading the climbing mags you would think that there were no grades under 25!

Bugger, ... and I always thought that there were some ?

I think this poll could turn out to be a self fulfilling prophecy.
What do you expect it to show?
... ; that most people climb in the 15-25 category, and that the majority within this subgroup climb18-21?
How many Gd 30 plus people will respond?
If any do, will you 'weight' the statistics proportionaly?

Why no Deep Water Solo / Boulder / Free solo / Mechanical / etc?
:) he he he :)
:)

it is actually encouraging and showing a nice bell curve, with most climbers climbing in the 18-19 range with a gradient fading on each side of this..... I think it is encouraging to moderate climbers to show that a majority of people climb at this level...like hatman stated when reading the various climbing mags and when i browse the forums here it often seems that "average" climber leads 25 and up.......

oh and as for bouldering, DWS and other forms of climbing.....there wasnt enough polling options....hehehe,...seriously though as free climbing is what the majority of climbers do i wanted to limit the poll to this area of climbing...but hey feel free to start your own poll serveying on a topic that interests you
