Some good points Alan,

It's also worth considering that students pay HECS fees which then have to be payed back (with interest) and also pay General Service Fees which apparently (if you read the fine print) are supposed to cover things like clubs and the like. And the article argues tha fees for these services are being removed, than why are fees continuing to increase, surely at some stage we should see a reduction in the fees if this is the case.

So when they say that clubs and sports venues are placing an unneccessary strain on our university funding I would argue, that we are already paying for it. And don't we all end up paying for these services with our taxes when we leave university and eneter the real world for the forseeable remainder of our lives.

Again it's a case of the boys and girls upstairs wanting to have their cake and eat it to. Just my opinion, clubs and sporting venues associated with unis are an important part of university life and often provide an opportunity for like minded individuals to network and form life long partnerships and relationships. Also their damn good fun as well.
