Volunteer Route Setting at Vic Ranges

In the past I have voluntarily set and stripped routes at Vic Ranges. I used to be happy doing this until I learned about the treatment that was recently metered out to some of the staff route setters. With volunteers offering their services the management will be able to mistreat paid route setters and keep the place running with volunteer labour. At least until the current dispute is resolved - possibly with the intervention of an Industrial Relations Court hearing - I will not be offering my services. What are your thoughts?

I climb regualry at Vic Ranges. It it possible to give a bit more info about this dispute? I am unclear as to what the issue is...

I also climb regularly at Vic Ranges. I believe the argument is over unfair dismissal and that the person concerned was never informed by Management that he had been sacked but by another part-time staff member.

I fear the quality of the route setting will go down hill as he was a skillful and productive route setter and now the gym only has one.

Having heard bits and peices of this dispute, from a few different sources, and having only heard one side of the argument I think it is probably best left to those involved to sort it out....

There is a lot involved in the current issue at Vic Ranges, more than I think a few of us are aware of. So we'd best not speculate.

That said, I like the gym, I like the people, and if I was given the chance to set something, I would. If it meant I was not stepping on the toes of those involved, they are my friends after all!

I do not believe that Chockstone is at all the appropriate forum to canvas views on this issue. You could end up doing more harm than good, whatever side you are on. As Elk said - best left for those involved to sort it out.
