Ok, I see. Top roping is still a dynamic loading situation, would normally be less severe than a lead climbing fall, as the person should only fall a short distance before the rope is loaded and the person begins to slow down, this. A static loading of the rope really can't occur in the true sense (with respect to climbing), but the closest you could come to it is you're hauling a beginner up a wall with no slack and they still manage to slip and fall.
Any grounding is bad news, actually any fall is bad news in my opinion because you're no longer in control of the situation, you're in the hands of your belayer and the environment. Plenty of broken limbs, town ligaments etc, from a fall 1 metre off the deck. |
