Bracken rips through Redbacks

New South Wales has taken first innings points on the opening day of the four-day cricket match against South Australia at the SCG.

The Blues are 0 for 44 shortly after lunch in reply to the Redbacks's first innings score of 29.

New South Wales paceman Nathan Bracken ripped through South Australia's batting line-up this morning, claiming figures of 7 for 4 from just seven overs.

No South Australian batsmen was able to reach double figures, with Nathan Adc--k the visitors' top-scorer with 8.

The Redbacks, who won the toss and elected to bat, were made to rue that decision as they narrowly avoided their lowest first class total.

South Australia's lowest score remains 27, also made against New South Wales at the SCG, way back in the 1955-56 season.

Bracken's effort comes just a week after the Blues bowled defending champions Victoria out for 91 to claim that match by an innings.

On that occasion it was Stuart Clark who was the destroyer, taking 5 for 10 from 13.4 overs.
