hey im due to arrive in australia in around a week and am wanting to fit some kind of climbing course in before christmas, preferably around the sydney(ish) area. im pretty much a beginner and all the courses ive found so far have been around $175 per day. anybody know of some more affordable climbing out there? im pretty willing to travel and would ideally like at least a few days of climbing. any help much appreciated!

cheers!

you could give these guys a try...

http://www.sydneyrockies.org.au/

their FAQ page gives some advise on getting started and provides a link to some gyms in Sydney which may run climbing courses.

there are also plenty of bouldering areas in sydney for which you won't need gear or much experience eg Lindfield. try here:

or

somewhere like these guys.....

have a 2 day rockclimbing course for $295 i.e $150 per day and the course runs in the Blue Mountains which is one of the best spots in NSW.

good luck

That sounds like a very cheap price to me. When you consider the (large) insurance and equipment costs involved and the fact it costs as much for a single bungy jump then it sounds very reasonable. Are you expecting to be 'trained' and learn things in the climbing session or just be entertained?

well, trained obviously......i've just come from nepal though where a six day mountaineering course costs at most 1/3 the price of a couple of days rock climbing! i just wanted a brief idea of whether this price was the norm or whether it was some extortionate internet-based price for suckers like me! thanks for the links, i'll definately look into them!
