hi..just thought id add a slightly different perspective on the original topic.
me adn my sister are the result of parent climbers who always took us out with them.

basicaly we got draged all over europe on any and every littel climbign kayakign or alpine touring adventures they could think of. first we where just carried in packs then tied to trees at various climbign crags so we didnt follow them (well i got a leash, my sister was left to roam)
harness usualy consisted of just sling, althoug we aquired some children harnesses later on(which i still have).
looking back at this now...my sister got scared of for quite a few years adn didnt climb again until recently(but now she is makingup for lost time), me..well it went up and down but basicaly i stuck to it adn finaly took over my parent gear adn forbade my dad from leading ( hes dangerous..one hex every 10 or so meters is not enough).
so id say that both me and myt sister are realy glad that my parents put in the extra effort to takes us out there adn let us climb, but also ultimatly let us make up our own minds about whether we actualy want to continue doing it.
