Thanks Mike,
I hear you.
By being a little inflammatory I was hoping to get a few of the Whatever clan actually being defensive of their wilderness spirit and nature, so it could be pointed out that the priviledge of things, such as bush camping (which I consider to be an integral part of the climbing experience) are under threat.
For example, there are forces that would like to ban camping at arapiles, including within our own ranks.
For me a big part of climbing is about freedom, and a big part of that is freedom to behave like a dickhead, people who read the posts carefully would have seen a lack of moralising, but rather a cautioning about attitude, which does a lot more damage than a few chipped rocks.
ps sorry for shifting this shit on your thread, it wont continue here, I'd appreciate a good solid comment probably better in a new thread unrelated to original incident. Is it possible to rename a thread?
Love to hear your experiences about american climbers. My experience of climbing with yanks is all really good, but none of it has been on mainland USA soil. For all they're noise and bad rap as a people I found american climbers to be really quietly supportive of each other and any climbers with them making it great to climb with them. They get pretty bad deals in terms of access in some sensitive areas and thats in a country where they still support the right to bear arms. |
