Back in the day, my Datsun 180B got us to the base of many a mountain, including one trip where a tree branch spiked up from the old logging track, clove through the floor beside the gear stick just as my hand departed it, and gouged a chunk out of the ceiling. We were driving so fast the gallant beast, thus harpooned in the belly, was overtaken by horse riders. The courageous little car was finally retired about 7 years ago, when I was faced with the prospect of actually having to pay the scape metal yard to take it away.
