John Moore passed away last week. Along with Peter Jackson, Bob Bull, Chris Dewhirst, Phillip Stranger and Chris Baxter, John was central to the development of hard modern climbing in Victoria and Tasmania during the 1960’s. He somehow managed to make climbs of almost any grade look easy. How did he do it? Blowed if I know, but he made me jealous. He also made friends easily. Warm hearted, reserved, interesting, and good humoured, John was also insightful and determined. Those traits stamped him as one of the countries most respected film documentary makers. He was passionate about history and social justice, especially in regard to Indigenous issues. Condolences to Lesley and all of his friends and family.
