the century before last photography (black & white with 1-30minute exposures) really shook up the whole painting thing (colour with a few days of sittings).
colour became the big deal in art (impressionists tried to be hypercameras, with colour)
then movies really messed with theatre, variety & burlesque
then every f---er could point their standard 8, super8, beta, vhs, digital vid at the same stuff that the painters, the photographers, the movie makers, the playwrites, the whatevers (who cares)
then we got australia's funniest home videos and reality TV
for what it's worth
i've taken some of my best ever photos on a point and click plastic thingy
digital or film
a bum shot is a bum shot
it's not the technology.
and
thechnology will continue to advance until the only thing you can rely on is the knowlege that if you know how to scribe your ideas&images onto a rockface with a burnt stick it won't get corrupted, version controlled, incompatibilitied(sic), platform redundant, fatal error'd, blah blah blah
what do you do to make a decent topo if there are trees, rocks, whatever in the way of your camera?
the burnt stick mostly beats the digital camera.
