The sad fact of the matter Kieran at el is that all of the current facilites (toilets, rubbish bins, camping areas etc) are in no way adequate for the number of people who visit Mount Arapiles. As much as it might detract from your "wilderness experience" if you could call it that, what is needed is more management. If the camping area was run commercially on a profit basis, you would find it would be much better looked after. I would suggest an area for caravans, an area for camping (with allotted sites) and an area for kids. A series of bins located around the area and some large skips down near the camping area entrance would remove the rubbish problems. Two large shower, toilet and laundry blocks would suffice.

As much as the old school (who nowadays seem to be making a living from bringing in hundreds of beginners into the park but protest any development) would like to maintain status of the good old days it is not. There is also potential for lots of other sports around the area such as mountain biking, trail biking and fishing. Believe it or not, mountain goats are in the minority these days.

This is my addition to the discussion.If you read it carefully you will understand where I am coming from and you will see the point of view.
