I would suggest that SAR events for unprepared walkers is far far more common that SAR events for climbers. Though that doesn't mean we as a community should not try to educate newer members to prevent gumby-itis.
Regarding getting lost. Some people have absolutely no navigational skills in cities streets let alone in the bush. Once the path is lost they could move in completely the wrong direction for hours without knowing it. Or they could simply walk in circles. Never underestimate the incompetence of most people. |
