After seeing some boulders tumble down around a vineyard, I'm reminded that the jump across the gap @ Hanging Rock in the Bluies is getting bigger. I'm willing to bet it'll drop before I do.

An interesting feature of the 'rockfall story from Italy' link, is the isolated boulder in the paddock slightly below where the most recent one ended up. It appears to have been there for some time, so this phenomenon is not new to that particular location...

DogFace developed from nothing to a gap of a few metres over several months I believe. It then stayed there for a few year before quietly passing in the night . .

Apparently no earthquake involved. However, there's a minor branch of geology that uses precariously perched rocks (or their absence) to work out the magnitude of past earthquakes. Abundance of precarious rocks in Australia = no big earthquakes.

If only we could install some new bouldering venues around Melbourne like they do in this clip.

Both dogface and hanging rock are associated with mining though aren't they?
