i'm not trying to define a new grading system, i'm only opening the arguement.

the arguement is that:
all grading systems are basically the same, and share each other's limitations.
(this should have been the title of the thread)

and what's that you're chewing?

1/2 ewbank is still open ended

the english system just uses extra letter to fill in the gaps on the ruler.
all the multinumeric grading sytems are still just subdividing the ruler.

difficulty is not equal to gradient.

difficulty is a quality.

my proposal that the primary grade should be technical dificulty.
then add: easy,on the money, hard
then add: deadly, underprotected, OK, well protected

the second number is an essay in itself
easy has to mean a high crux on a lesser climb, OK that the rest of the climb isn't that much below the crux, hard means that the whole thing is strenuous and that is the quality of the 'crux'
