i get the feeling that i'm flogging a dead horse. (would be a good name for a climb)
ewbank grades are so often qualified in the route description, soft touch for the grade, a solid 16, etc.
or consider the grades in the different araps guides.
three numbers would give a lot of information.
unlike the british system which has a lot of terms for the same info as the elegantly simple ewbank, the number of climbs that are overgraded or undergraded according to the specific abilities of the climber indicate that there is something missing from this system.
i've climbed some 12's that were harder than some 15's. (ie 6.3.x vs 7.1.x)
the difference between a 20 & a 21 is meaningless when this level of inconsistency regularly happens.
