Goretex in boots? Well, the quoted specs for the lifetime of goretex membranes in boots is 100000 flexes (from a proud salesguy at an outdoor store). Sounds like a lot, but if you do the maths (1m stride, 500flexes/km etc) that works out to be about 200km. That's easily done in a few days hard walking/climbing. You also have to worry that the membrane cis going to clog up with oils/dirt pretty quickly. Once that happens there is no breathability and you might as well smother them in nikwax anyway. In otherwords you've got to wonder whether it's yet another triumph of the goretex marketing machine...or is this too cynical(?) Your feet are probably never going to be as dry in leathers as in plastics.
