For non-high altitude stuff insulated leathers are great. I've had a pair of La Sportiva K3s for about 5 seasons and they're fantastic for New Zealand in summer and snowy mtns in winter. Used for a variety of trips, ie bludgy fly in/out hut based climbing and 2+ week transalpines with a heavy pack. Very comfortable straight out of the box, although La sportivas have a reputation of fitting narrow feet (which mine are) so anyone with wide hoofs might disagree. I don't think they make them any more and the sole's almost worn out...anybody had any success resoling or know what the equivalent shoe in the range is now? Andrew
