I use myTracks on my phone. Yes, it does run off google maps, but you can add your own routes,waypoints, etc.

Best thing for me is that it seems pretty accurate, and I already take it everywhere I go so its not like I need to remember to bring more things with me.

I have used it to log all of the climbing trips I have been out on this year without any dramas. Its great because when I get back home, I jump on my computer and upload the route on to my google account - great if you want to share the information with other climbers, as a red line on a map is easier to understand than 'turn left 300m up from the last ant hill'

Oh, and its free for android and 99cents for iphone. You can also break it down into gps co-ords for placement on other maps, like ozy explorer, etc.
