Re sling-on-sling connections, three examples are shown at http://www.rockandice.com/lates-news/climb-safe-connecting-two-slings-together
* Girth - yep
* Strop - yep
* Climbers hitch - huh?
So, my question is, what is the 'climbers hitch' pitured - how's it done?
Looks like a strop hitch with a twist in each sling, which maybe helps it from locking-up?

Looks kind of like a Simple Simon bend, but with the extra loop (compared with a strop bend) in both of the cords, rather than just one.
Edit: Yep, found detailed instructions: http://web.archive.org/web/20120402224328/http://www.climerware.com/cknot1.htm

One thing to be wary of is if the slings get wet, or are damp. Spectra-onspectra generates much more heat when loaded while wet and can fail at far reduced loads (I was trying to find the testing for this but have been unable to put my hands on it immediately).

Yep, and that is why we see so many failures in the field.
I'm sick of walking around crags ankle-deep in broken slings.
