The Scorpians were my second pair of specialist climbing boots - after the Dunlop Volleys. Well, they must've been good - Mikl designed and recommended them!
This pair (not mine) saw less wear, but still faded with time as my daughter climbed in them. Note the original colour of the tongue. Autumn 1988.

They were specialist boots designed for resistance training.

Poor English expression. Well picked up Kieran.
The volleys were specialist climbing boots, purchased when I got the bug. But being a beginner, I had trouble edging in the volleys. I thought the scorpions would improve my footwork, so at the time I thought I was upgrading.
I trusted the guy at Mountain Designs. Was he on commission Mikl?

Snap. These came out of a box of ancient gear where they've been sitting unused since the 1980s.

Here's one of them in (in)action at the first belay on Gigantor. As far as I can work out this must have been taken in 1979.

There are more treasures in the box, which would make for an entertaining post for the over-50s.

Love the Chouinard hammer, original stoppers / hex's, crackenup, Chouinard oval krab, tape, etc, in the background of the photo, as well as the climbing shoes! ~> I can relate to all the above!! ☺

John,
I've got some great anachronisms from Vinnies over the years.

Also, I met an exceedingly cute girl walking up Swanston St Melbourne in 1983 wearing Fire's (the first in Australia) that she'd got from an Oxfam in London thwe week before. Not a climber, she thought they'd be good for dancing

There's lots more ancient gear in the box. I don't think I've bought an item of gear except a second-hand harness and some lightly-used boots since the late '80s, so it's quite a museum. I'll take some more photos and post them. First one is a join-the-dots puzzle for the over-50s.

Not a "day on the face' but back about 1970 Bruno Zielke and other aRMpITs went for a scramble about the base of the above mentioned Dogface and were amazed to find carrot bolts scattered around the base. Our first thoughts were that they had been 'dropped' but then decided that they had fallen out under their own weight! Subsequent information led us to believe the latter was correct.

I'd say the bolts were from the Original DogFace Bolt Route by Ryan and co in mid late 60s . .
First was only 20m in middle of wall near Gigantor, now the Pecker Route . .
The cliff-length 2nd effort was near Titan, and got chopped by Ewbank, and the bolts dropped. I heard you could still find some in the '80s; never found any myself despite looking in the 90's . . .
