It is interesting to see a manufacturer doing this, and makes me wonder if the krabs involved in the recent fatality were originally made by them, not that they have any control over how others choose to use them...
I wonder how long it will be before manufacturers start marketing krabs especially designed to avoid that 'niche problem'. Things like composite construction materials come to mind, but simply using steel krabs, or the krab type that incorporate the pulley rollers in the rope basket portion would solve the problem (for those who perceive it as such), short term.

Even the roller-types wear into bad end products . .
The bottom line is 'perma-draws' aren't and shouldn't be!
Put them up when you climb and take them down when you leave - simple!
And if you leave them there, then accept what happens . . .

Here's something someone's trying to get up for RRG: http://www.facebook.com/RrgFixedGearEthicsInitiative
Some of the pics of biners retired are a bit worrying:

This isn't that surprising, I replaced a couple of very worn out biners on the way of all flesh a few years back, they were worn half way thought and sharp edged.
If you see something dodgy fix it!!
