I was wondering if anyone has any tips on what tape is the most ideal for use on fingers when climbing, that allows full movement but with good hand protection?

pick the bored guy stuck at home babysitting and thinking of climbing....ie me....
As a self confessed tape addict, my advice would be to avoid it unless absolutely necessary. I'm
seriuous, once you start you cant stop, and I'm not sure it ever helped me overcome an injury. In the
worst case I think it actually made an injury.
That being said if you must then the type of tape depends on its purpose...are you trying to support a
strained pulley? are you just trying to protect skin? yadda yadda yadda.
The bottom line is that the most important thing is not the tape but the way you tape it - a bad tape job
can make an injury worse. Also make sure that you never try to climb hard immediately after taping,
settle the tape by doing a couple of chins on some nearby jugs or an easy boulder problem or two, and
make sure it doesn't feel weird before you climb something hard. If you can t sto-p th weird feeling rip
the tape job off and try again...Once it's settled a good tape job'll last all day.
That being said, i've always found the best tapes are light sports strapping tape...some of them have
got really thick glue on them, which i always hated. Avoid expensive leaukoplast shite....too much
glue...cost too many clams. Ive always found the best tapes are the thin sport strapping tapes with a
light glue that enables your hand/fingers to settle into the tape job. I've never honed in on a brand, but
when I find a chemist with a tape that I like I come back and buy 5 rolls.

im allergic to the adhesive in strapping tape so climbing cracks i have to grin (or cry) and bear it... :)
