This sounds like an awesome weekend. I'll have to look at the rosters for work to see if its feasible (and then find someone to share the driving from Adelaide with). Thanks for posting this M9, it's a great idea.

M9: Following on from our PM discussion, there could be two (possibly 3) more people interested in going. I had a housewarming planned that weekend but will look into postponing it. (You can still call it a house warming party if it happens 6 months after you move in can't you?)

Cheers,
Staggy

I was going to head to Araps around that period, but this sounds like far more fun, are many people likely to be around buff during the weeks either side of that weekend for normal climbing? I could say boo-urns to araps and spend the time at buff instead, but I would need a self motivated climbing partner.

I don't think I'll be able to make it now. I have assignments due on the 21st, so unless I change my whole uni modus operandi and finish them early, I'll be pretty busy that weekend.

OK, the weekend involved is a fortnight away and getting closer, so here is the present list of interested participant user ID's so far, and their locations, for those that may want to vehicle pool, etc.
The list may also help(?) with SteveC enquiry of;
>are many people likely to be around buff during the weeks either side of that weekend for normal climbing?

Participants - mostly confirmed…

IdratherbeclimbingM9 - on a motorbike with a wallbag so no room to spare!
egosan – Melbourne
bl@ke – Benalla
hargs – Sydney.
trogster – Melbourne.
JimmyW – Vic.
Wollemi – Blueys/Sydney

brendan – Canberra
Fish Boy – Melb?.

Unconfirmed / possible starters?...

Mike Bee – Adelaide.
Climboholic + two Climboholic contacts –
SteveC – Blueys
wallwombat – Goulburn

~> Makes a provisional total of 15 at the moment but with 2 to 5 likely to be doing their own thing.

Possible starters for a later similar exercise…

bagotup – Coffs Harbour.
Bern – Melb.
russianSpy – SE Qld.
racingtadpole – Adelaide.
ajfclark – Melbourne.
davids –
Phil Box – Qld

The numbers / expressions of interest, are not definitive and may not reflect all correspondence I have had along the way as there are others outside of the cyber-confines of Chocky, but should be a good starting point for those wishing to get together with someone from their area to share the journey.

I have not booked a campsite as the weekend concerned is out of peak period, is between the labour day long weekend (just past), and Easter in April; plus the feedback I have had to an earlier enquiry is that there should be sites available on a 'turn up' basis.
If people travelling from further afield don't want to take the risk, then bookings can be made online at www.parkweb.vic.gov.au or by calling the Parks Victoria Information Centre on 13 1963 or the Mount Buffalo Entrance Station on (03) 5756 2328.

Further information on camping there is found in this link…
http://www.parkweb.vic.gov.au/resources05/05_0388.pdf

I am expecting to receive (by mail), some additional aid gear that I am borrowing from a mate soon, but anything you can bring will help with sufficiency.

If anyone is turning up on Friday evening (speak up on this thread if you are!), then I shall go up to meet you, otherwise it will be more likely that I will turn up quite early on Saturday morning.
I have no further details for contacting folk. Confirm here, or if you want my phone contact details then pm me.
Note also that ph reception (at least for the Telstra one I have), up at Mt Buffalo is sketchy/not available in lots of places...

If the weather is raining I am still inclined to go up. Depending on numbers present and keenness of same (let me know beforehand!), we can still get something done, though if the weather is kind it will likely be a much more successful weekend.

It looks like this trip is not a goer for us this time around. We'll be up there over the ANZAC Day long weekend. What do you think about 24-26 Apr as a possible date for 2nd trip?

Bad luck about that :(
... but good to hear you are able to get there over Anzac :)

I am not sure about setting a date for a second trip yet, as I have to get through the first, first(!), to be sure, to be sure, ... and no, I am not Irish.
Heh, heh, heh.
It would depend on a number of things like how well the first one goes, as well as other participants agendas, let alone mine which is uncertain for that weekend at present.

I am marvelling somewhat at the response so far, as it blows me away that some people are considering travelling the long distances involved for it, if their profile location/comments are fair dinkum.

I am pretty sure that the dirt roads out to Horn and Devils Couch areas would be closed at that time of year (they close all their dirt roads after Easter holiday from memory), which would make doing Creamed Rice & Mangoes, or Faust & Elizabeth, impractical due the time involved in a longer walk in.

So for the second session maybe a change of venue to, let me think (sound of drumming fingers), I know, Frog Buttress. Lotsa hard aid climbs on thin seams for the beginners to cut their teeth on. Easy to set a jug line beside the climb for coaching purposes. Frog season is coming up too.

i had epic fun at buffalo on the weekend, was intending to head down there thursday night and head back monday (long weekend) ended up going down on friday after work. It pissed rain all friday night, Saturday was ok weather though but was supposed to rain, i hung out abit, went for a walk, did a tour of the chalet waiting for the rain....... it never came, by 3pm decided the rain had forgot to show up and i would go through with the original plan of soloing ozzy direct, i walked my haul bag, ledge and ropes to defender rap station and headed down. It had been raining at buff, alot. By the time i had made it to the next rap station my ropes were soaked and i was too. Two more raps and i was back on the ground realising this was maybe not the best time to be climbing on the north wall. I still wanted to try though and rapped down the gully (which was a waterfall) to the base of ozzy. First pitch was soaked wet, just like me. I changed shoes and shirt and started up the first aid bolts, got to the free moves and couldnt do them as the holds where to wet. Back to the ground to get tent pole and tape to stick clip next bolt. Finally clip next bolt pull up to it and suddenly it hits me, what the f**k am i doing, the whole pitch is a waterfall and its supposed to be raining for the next two days maybe i should do this another time, e.g. anytime but now. Bail off the route, drag all my shit down to the river setup my portaledge fly to sleep for the night, drink my two cans of beer, ditch all my water, possum eats my chocolate while i am sleeping. Get up in the morning divide my gear into two managable loads (haul bag one load, two ropes, rack and ledge second load) 5 hours later i am on the top of the gorge, great fun

Good one. I will cross link your post to Trip Reports ...

You made the right decision to bail. I too was surprised that Saturday turned out fine, but we got 75 mm of rain over the next two days down in the valley, and I expect more would have fallen up there...

You know you have fun when you need to set a tyrolean style safety line across Crystal Brook to get out up the south side*.

(*Been there, done that, & will probably end up doing it again because I forgot to get the T-shirt).

Nice, bren!!

If the weather is good, I'll be there. Still keen for ozy in a day brendan? No worries if not...

I'm open to whatever...keen on doing a shorter nth wall route like cardinal or defender or zues. Dont want to spend the night out but keen to push it. If someone wants a tour up defender that's fine, come along.

I'll just solo something if no one wants to come out.

I can give a lift to blake. Have spare etts, jugs....

I'm glad I was NOT a part of that mission....

What's with just the two can of beers anyway?
