Hi,

Does anyone climb regularly at Hardrock CBD? we are there every Tues/Thurs night and Saturday day (or Sunday if we have been drinking on Friday :/) for a few months. relatively new to climbing (but absolutely nuts for it) and working up strength, fitness and technique (and a few nasty calluses :/) to brave some outdoor routes soon.
Would love to meet some regulars or even people as obsessed as me!

lol. um. no. Anyway, i always climb with my partner, he might get sulky, and that just makes a horrible night for everyone :P

well you never can be too careful. make sure you (Wear a T-shirt that reads "Just because i"ll climb with you, doesn't mean i find you attractive.")
as to getting ready for going outdoors by climbing indoors...if you're that keen, just go and do it. tag along with someone who knows what they're doing or go out and do something easy with a friend. you'll learn a lot more outside than simply pulling down hard on plastic.

There's a group of anywhere between 5-8 of us who climb on Mon/Thurs eves and most Saturday arvos (unless we're at the Gramps or bouldering). We're usually practicing our leading, so come say 'hello'.

Most of the regulars in there are pretty friendly, so there's no need for you guys to be shy. :)

I think we have seen you on many occasion :) i remember seeing lead climbers on my second visit, and saying "i want to do that!" the week later we bought a membership each, all of our gear and have not let up since :)

as long as i can cut the tshirt at the neck and wear hotpants to give a really mixed message :)

i didnt think i would ever want to climb outside, but the more i climb indoors, the more i WANT to climb outdoors, i have some friends who go outdoor climbing maybe its time i did go :)

You have to be careful who you say Hi to these days!

I have been approached by strangers who were told to find me by staff *cough* Tim & Scott is not that usual!

hmm interesting, that's the first time i';ve heard someone starting out climbing thinking they'd never do it outside.

If I had thought about climbing outside before actually doing it, I probably wouldn't have.

Which may have been a good idea given that my partner was fairly inexperienced also. No injuries yet
though!

Almost refused to climb Arachnus the first time I went to Arapiles just because of the sheer height.

This is an interesting statement... I want to ask.. what do guys have to wear to give the wrong impression? Hot pants as well? Wife beater singlet?

This is your opportunity to spend quality time wiht the BF. Doesn't he want to take you out climbing?

oh, i'm not the first to say i'm a bit of a princess when it comes to heat, dirt, and sharp dirty rockky things... but now i always have such bad bruising on my legs all the time from the constant indoor climbing, i might as well give up on wearing dresses... ... at least it's air conditioned tho!

he's an indoor climber as well, we started together so were at the same level...

. >_< i meant to work :P however, i think wearing a dress rockclimbing might give your partner the impression it is a date :D

BTW - The a/c at the CBD gym has apparently sharted itself. Last we heard, they had someone in to fix it, but they couldn't sort it as it's a bigger problem than a quick-fix.

It's been pretty hot/muggy in there already on mid-20s days.

I think that Melb is now in dire need of a nudist Gym. What a great way to show off yourself and your climbing skills as well.
