If your in Darwin check out the old wwII fuel tanks, been converted to a climbing centre. Drop in there and your sure to meet up with a few keen locals.
If you have time can you do a reco for me. When last up there i spied some awesome looking boulders between Pine Creek and Mary River station on the Kakadu hwy, south side. Roughly 30 odd km's from the Stuart hwy.
One boulder was like an aussie rules footy on it's end about 10m high, looked like granite. They were about 100m from the road.
I was travelling with non climbers and they refused to stop so I could inspect them (probably a tad sick of me checking out every lump of rock we came across). I enquired with a few climbers in Darwin but no-one seemed to know about them.
Might end up being snake infested choss but looked well worth an exploration.

I had a look at a few boulders to/from Kakadu when I was there, but like you say it seems to be granite or a conglomerate and the constant fires exfoliate the rock like crazy. Mostly choss, though the waterfalls in Kakadu hold some fun problems.
