Well it's difficult to climb harder boulder problems if you don't go bouldering Wendy! How many years have you put into trad climbing in comparison? As for falling off truckloads of trad gear, lets rephrase that to the fact that you have 'slumped' onto truckloads of trad gear and fallen on lots of pre-placed trad gear.

And the idea that reasonable boulderers should be good roped climbers and vice-versa is like saying that Usain Bolt should be a good marathon runner.

Yeah, ok, but still, over the course of 20+ years, I've done at least as much bouldering as the three of them put together!

As

Hey, i've lobbed onto that gear whilst dogging it in, too!

Still, i wouldn't expect the massive difference of bouldering v7 and leading 18! Something weird is going on there. In a cynical moment, i've thought those three are all so tall they just grab the top out holds from the ground! I should go do Bum Drag with them when i'm climbing again.

really? so what are you saying that you haven't fallen on any gear yet, you don't get out on real rock much, you only climb 16 trad, and 21 sport, can only boulder to v4, no self rescue or other hauling skills, but that your willing to climb with a beginner ?
>

My point was that to many you are in fact still a beginner, no big wall skills, no mountaineering experience, no aid climbing skills, only climbing low grades, and moderate bouldering, etc,..... so saying that you

>have the patience for any beginners that are interested

might read a bit hypocritical is all

Try climbing stuff that will make you struggle, good for gaining skills in getting up a rope if you can't get up the rock, and its also a great way to get experience/technique and stamina needed for those mid grade climbs when your ready.

Gee what a pack of ass-wipes some of you are...! Hell, there's boulderers down our way that can Boulder V6 (and harder), but can't do a 21 on ropes.

Perhaps we should rephrase the opening post for those of you nasties who have some kind of ego inflation disorder...

"Looking for someone to climb with, and who can give me a lift up there from melbourne. I can dog my way up sport (23), but don't expect me to lead you up grade 20 trad, because I've done stuff-all of it. I boulder about V4, because I've done a bit of bouldering in gym.

I have all the gear, and the patience, for any OTHER beginners that are interested.

But really, I'd love to climb"

yes, i'd be happy climbing with someone who is only comfortable climbing grades 1-5 and i've done it before, that was the point i was trying to make. I remember being a beginner and feeling intimidated by good climbers and their ability to do things I couldn't come close to.

Sorry for not making it clearer but I use to call myself a beginner until i had enough experience to take someone climbing that had never climbed before and these are the beginners I was talking about. Someone might be an experienced seconder but doesn't lead for what ever reason...i would not call them a beginner, unless they wanted to start leading. I have no interest in big wall, mountaineering, or aid climbing and have never attempted them so how can i be a beginner? So I guess i am a beginner of all the grades I have not made it up. And you say 'only' as there is a problem that i only climb these grades.....the only climbing that I'm really interested in pushing is my bouldering, and not by grade, the others make no difference the grade. I'm perfectly happy climbing where I am currently until I feel like attempting harder climbs.

>
>>have the patience for any beginners that are interested

You only gain more experience from climbing with those that have more, or different, experience than you or climbing more...so if i'm not climbing then not much i can do to improve my skills in either of these ways.

this is true, but i rarely get the opportunity to climb with people who climb harder than me and it doesn't bother me enough to want to set up top ropes for myself.

That's not fair actually, because it depends on the style of climbing. I don't know Blake, but if Andrew and Sol pre-placed all their gear, and found someone patient enough to belay them while they projected the shit out of something (probably the same style as Wendy's 27), then they'd be climbing 28s.

Bloody hell! Gekko posts that he'd like to go for a climb and comes off pretty stoked to get amongst it and gets crapped on by all and sundry. Who cares what grade he climbs, who cares if he can't enact a rescue, who cares if he's left handed.

Have people forgotten their own noobhood or did you all start climbing with a perfectly balanced climbing skill set?

If that's three figure eights in a row than I like the cut of your jib sailor. And you have a purty mouth (or at least your avatar does.)

Sounds like we should compare rope logbooks.

Could be fun, though be warned; I have more than one rope logbook, and they're all short, skinny and wet noodle like:(

Did you find that having more than one rope logbook increased the life of your ropes?
On that note, duang daunks got a black book that he keeps but simey doesn't reckon it is worth a slab of singers beer.

They aren't onsighting 23s either Jeremy.

Incidently, i'm not dissing their climbing, but it does amaze me that I can climb way harder routes (in a reasonable range of styles) but can't touch the boulder problems they do. I'm really not joking, I've never done a v5 in my life.

Right - you'd never diss another climber while 'subtly' propping your own ego Wendy. Incidentally, it could be the difference in body types that make Andrew and Sol better boulderers - they're both pretty skinny, especially in the ass dept.

Double holy crap! I meant to write 'Who cares if he's right handed.' If he truly is a leftie he deserves the flaming, and more! Carry on!

Are you trying for the title of selfrightous forum wanker, Jeremy? I don't need to justify what i can climb to you - anyone who actually climbs with me knows what I climb. I also climb with Andrew and Sol a fair bit and know what they can climb, and my point is - there's a massive discrepancy between bouldering and climbing grades on both sides.

Anyway, by the time I can actually climb again in December, i'll probably be unable to touch v0 and struggling up 18s. The wastage in my right arm is noticeable already and it's only a month.
