Is there room to pitch a tent or bivi outside the climbers hut at Ben Lomond.
Yes, I know there is a campsite down the road.

I think you would find that quite difficult. My memory is of quite a few trees and rocks around, though I've never actually looked for a tent site there. A 1P tent would increase your odds.
But why not stay in the hut? Don't like sleeping with possums?

I reckon the camp site half way down the mountain is much nicer than the climbers hut personally.

i have never been there, but wouldnt a bivi be possible almost anywhere?
they not always the best nights sleep tho.

Pain in the ass to lug all the gear down to the hut. The campsite has really nice sites.
However, to answer the question. Not really room or flat ground for a tent. I did set up a hammock though.

Hut (even more of a PITA when you lug all your stuff down to the hut and have it rain for 3 out of 4 days):
