Thinking about exploring Bundaleer next week, is it open for climbing?

Hi Groveller,

Yes it is open but there are different access directions to it. Long way around I'm afraid. Heading off to work now so don't have time to search for it but there is a thread with the new directions on it. Search Bundaleer Reopening I think - unless some other quick Chocky resident does it for you.

A little tip - Bundaleer has it's own airconditioning system. And it is on all year round. I was there a lot last summer, and it's fantastic in normal summer weather. However, we went over one day when it was only 26. Now, 26 seems pretty warm when you are at Araps. Thoughtfully, however, I packed some layers. Douglas thought it was a lovely warm day and just had the shorts and t shirt he was wearing. As a result, he ended up in all my layers looking a little like he starred in an 80s boy band.

Anyway, I suggest wait til it's really hot (Bundaleer comes into it's own in the high 30s and even early 40s. Really. It's totally climbable on stinking hot days. Walk up early and laze in the camping cave until the rest of the cliff comes into the shade then enjoy). Or otherwise, pack a full down suit.

Nah, it was fine a couple of weeks ago when it was 15C and raining. A couple of thermals and a downie and you'll be right... :D

Norm Booth and Ed Neve tried to get into Bundaleer yesterday and found the start of Stony Creek Rd from Glenelg River Road blocked by a gate and bulldozer. I've emailed Parks, with a copy to Tracey, to find out if it was just a one-off or whether the access has been closed longer-term.

Just had a call from Prue Daley at Parks. The Stony Creek Rd should be open from teh Mt Victory side. They're going to check that the contractors working on the Glenelg River Road haven't inadvertently closed it.
So, Bundaleer access should be fine for weekend.
