My Dad has had a sorta mini defibrillator built into his shoulder for 15 years and the only thing that shits him is they have to change the batteries again soon. :)

In 15 years it has gone off once, and they told us he pretty much could drop any second.

He flys planes and does heaps of shit still coz he has a young wife, :)

Face ya demons M9, and make ya choices. And then never waiver from them. The body is strong in more ways than physically.

Thinkin of ya.

I'm pissed off that M9 is pissed off.

But to add some hilarity I'm pissed off also that I walked over 40kms Saturday night only to get hopelessly lost, have 1hr sleep in a dry bag and raincoat prior to dawn, still search for my mystery gully, have to hand over hand back up my new 4mm abseil rope with a broken elbow. Then have a 15km walk back to Katoomba, run for a train, fall asleep soaking wet. Go home pass out with only a tub of yogurt for dinner.

Now thats not what I'm pissed off about, what I'm pissed off about is I got up at quarter to five to go to work and no one else showed up because it was raining! f--- I really could of stayed in bed to!

Thanks (all) for the encouragement.
... I have also taken a leaf out of ww&s's adventure-book and taken a large spoonful of cement since making that post, which was made in an unguarded moment of surprise while still digesting the possible implications of that unexpected news.

how did the blood bank pick it up . they take your blood pressure , test haemoglobin level, ask your weight -very occasional weigh you and last time for the first time measured my height . they do feel your pulse for 10 to 15 seconds surely that's not where they picked it up

Part of the process of measuring blood pressure is listening to the noises your blood makes as it passes the constriction. That's why you need a stethoscope on the veins and a cuff when you do it manually.

Automagic pressure cuffs detect when it's irregular as it might mean the reading is bogus.

The machines give you weird reading if you have an irregular beat. a decent nurse will recheck it and do a manual if it's still weird to find out why. A slack nurse will just write it in as is. So sounds like you had a decent nurse.

"Your Heart Is A Muscle The Size Of Your Fist"

Lyrics -

Dalia never showed me nothing but kindness.
She would say: “I know how sad you get."
And some days, I still get that way,
But it gets better.
It gets better.
It gets better.
Sweetie, it gets better, I promise you.
And she'd tell me

Your heart is a muscle the size of your fist,
Keep on loving. Keep on fighting.
And hold on, hold on,
Hold on for your life.

Ian built a cabin in the woods to live in.
For years, terrifying noises kept him up at night
With a twelve gauge under his pillow.
He’s living in Boston now, going to art school.
I forgive him.
I forgive him.
Hell, I’ll admit it: I’m proud of him.

Serena’s an architect and a carpenter.
She’s such a feminist she says she isn’t one,
Because 'Goddamn, my gender shouldn’t matter!'
And her motorcycle glides through the streets of Providence,
Down to the warehouse district.
The paint job is as stunning as
Her knowledge of medieval building techniques.

Your heart is a muscle the size of your fist.
Keep on loving. Keep on fighting.
And hold on, and hold on,
Hold on for your life.

This one goes out to Georgios, he knows how to dance.
Abby Banks, your book is beautiful,
And flip anyone who says otherwise.
Scott, I love you and you make me glad to be alive.
I promise that I’m gonna pay you back.
You always know how funny everything is,
Even when I’m so serious that it’s gonna be the death of me.

Like the time that our friend Chuck came over to our house.
He said he needed somebody to take care of his pets,
'Cause he was going out of town.
I asked him “Where?” and he said “New Mexico.”
I asked if I could get a ride.
He said: “No, you don’t want to follow me
Where it is I’m going.”
He pulled out of the drive way.
That was the last time we saw him,
'Cause he drove straight to his parent’s cabin
And put a bullet in his head.

Your heart is a muscle the size of your fist.
Keep on loving. Keep on fighting.
And hold on, and hold on,
Hold on for your life.

Your heart is a muscle the size of your fist.
Keep on loving. Keep on fighting.
And hold on, and hold on,
Hold on for your life.

What I get out of this musical masterpiece is that a heart is approx the size of a #3 C4.

Probably mostly the latter.
The nurse had done the automagic-machine thing but didn't comment on the reading (nor had a look of surprise etc), entered that reading to the computer system, and then took my pulse. She did however comment about the pulse, and sought out another nurse to also check my pulse as confirmation of her suspicions.
The second nurse agreed with the first, and so the first then phoned the Red Cross Dr on duty, for further guidance. Dr on duty spoke with me on the phone and I left with the form that the nurse gave me. The local GP has run with the issue from there...

Officially pissed I haven't done much climbing and am instead still grinding away in thesis land.

So I'm putting the call out (this is climbing related because its stopping me from climbing..):

If anyone in Melbourne is interested in participating in my research on driving behaviour please PM me and I will send you details about what is involved. I need 3 males between the ages of 30 and 65 to finish!

What if a candidate such as you nominate, is outside Melbourne?
