......but you would think that if they were fair dinkum and upfront, it would be hard for a moderator to veto their membership and maintain any integrity.

I don't think I was really thinking when I put in the Safer Cliffs area, it was a public notice.
Sorry for any fuss, but everyone did get to exercise their keyboards so all was not lost

They can request all they want, but unless they are a local climber interested in bolting then they won't gain access. I do a little background checking on names I am unfamiliar with. 99% of the time I only need to look at their previous Chockstone postings to see if they are legit or not. It's not fool proof but it keep the rif raf out. I don't want these forums to be used as a media research tool to get our crags banned.

For the record, I agree with Neil's stance, which seems a good compromise in the circumstances.

Woah...I have been granted access to the Safer Cliffs thingo and yet I didnt do anything. Or at least, I think I have. One of the pages I looked at had the Safer Cliffs logo at the top...and I have definitely been locked out before.

I can definitely see the need for the extra layer of security, and I like the way its been implemented. Kudos to Neil on that one.

Noticed the name change to Safer Cliffs Australia on menu, but guess it will probably take a while to see internal content changes to reflect same.

Post edit 8/2/09.
Notice internal content upgrades have been done.
Thanks to those behind the scenes for keeping the integrity of the site!

As I said further up the page I have given permission to about 20 new people in the last 24 hours. They were all regular users of these forums so it was easy for me to suss them out before hand.

Yoo hoo Mr nmonteith!
I am not a bolter but it would be nice to see what is happening in that area, as I do climb on them sometimes. Will you give me permission too? I promise to keep whatever I read a secret from Derek my M10 love, as I know that you and he don't see eye to eye. He is such a stubborn fellow. I have mentioned it to him that you will let him back on the forum if he behaves himself, but he is too proud to admit he was wrong with his former behaviour.
Should I be sending this to you in a PM? Dearie me, this internet etiquette is all so confusing sometimes.
