Thats awesome gfdonc. Those stats are really interesting. As a regular and experienced diver and ocassional and hack rock climber I am genuinely really suprised that the probability of a fatality whilst scuba diving is higher than whilst climbing. The scuba diving industry is soo bloody regulated and they pride themselves on their safety record.
What really suprises me though is that the chance of dying whilst giving birth is 1 in 8200, the most dangerous activity by far. I never thought that my ma would be more of daredevil than me!
Note: Hang-gliding second highest at 1 in 116,000 flights.

I'm sure their industry does it to make more $$$. Safety would have to be a secondary issue.
