c) Laugh at the nonsense and the insults - it means nil......

just be thankful he wasn't hitting on you too, Bob. wouldn't surprise me if he did tho. & if i have to hear about travis, the xr, his daddy, or his female (or animal) conquests 1 more time I think I'll explode!

sometimes. certainly degrades the quality/purpose of the forum.

maybe if its kept to a nonsense thread - its outta controoooolllllll...

I think there should be more abuse on the forum, it gets boring otherwise, a bit like a cliff without chalk and ring bolts. And being polite is nonsense!

Fair enough Steph, I can't argue with that POV.
I will say though if he wants to get stuck into me he's quite welcome, I'll either
ignore him or bite back for a laugh but at the end of the day you should never worry about these types as
a) they are probably completely different in real life
b) worrying what other think, do or say is a quick way to tension and that's unnecessary.
sure it degrades the forum if you let it, ignore it and it will go away, if you don't feed a fish it dies..................
you can't bin all superfluous crap in life and how you deal with it, in the variety of ways that are open to you says something about you as a person and assists in when confronted with garbage that continually plagues the life of us all.

In other words they get satisfaction from annoying others, but are too scared to do it in real life because they will lose all their friends? I think you shouldn't give them the benefit of making the distinction between "real life" and "online life". Your actions have consequences wherever you are. Just ask the dude who got killed by his friend after he stole his virtual sword.
>b) worrying what other think, do or say is a quick way to tension and

No, it's necessary if we want to keep nice people on the site. steph has put up with more than enough already IMO. If you ignore them, they will suffocate the board. It's happened many times before.
>sure it degrades the forum if you let it, ignore it and it will go away,

No it just screams louder for attention.
>you can't bin all superfluous crap in life and how you deal with it, in

So if someone is annoying you, you just ignore it and hope it goes away?
I understand what you're trying to say, we do have to be somewhat tolerant but there needs to be a definite line and firm action must be taken when it is crossed. Then everyone knows where they stand.
Here's another way of looking at it... is it better to err on the side of removing the troll who contributes nothing, or to err on the side of keeping the troll who will discourage productive discussion?

suffice to say Goroste we probably look at things differently, I guess I don't get riled up my too much in relation to the actions of others. I simply don't let it affect me.
Perhaps it's too hard for everyone to have the same view as naturally we are all different.
well I'm still a firm believer of ignoring nonsense, it's very easy IMO not to pay it any attention, especially as this site is comprised of a majority of genuine people who can spot a troll a mile off, surely if no credence is paid to a troll their very existance is questionable as they exist to cause a stir.
If someone is annoying me Gordoste I handle it respective to the context of the situation. If some turkey on the web is say I'm a loser we'll so be it, even if he really thinks that I don't have a problem with it, what problems is it really going to cause me?
If it does cause you grief it means they have got to you and you are believing their "press".
However the question you've asked could have a very long answer as people annoying you happens in many different contexts.
I do agree some things are beyond the pale and should just be deleted from the topic without fanfare, don't let your hackles be raised......
People who genuinely have something of value to contribute should not be put off by trolls, agressive posters erc.....because there are more than enough good folk here who will listen, discuss and participate in the way they desire.
Life is full of nerks, so I think it's good practise to deal with them online in a calm and unruffled manner. Afterall being climbers we shouldn't care what others think as if you ask 7/10 people who don't climb what they think of it they'll pay out on it as risky, dangerous and not reccommended yet we continue to ascend.
I do see your POV though.
