My understanding is that , un-like Baxter--- who thankfully is built like the proverbial rhino--- Hero Farkutu became a bit over-whelmed by all the ' issues' that OTHER people had about the magazine, and so another great climbing mag / cult-fen-om-en-om bit-da-dust...
At the time it was in publication ,( early 1980s ), people tended to treat it like most do with Chockstone now --- some saw it as totally GROUSE, and took the opportunity to contribute to ' history in the making ' ; most took it, and Greg's hard-work, for granted ; a few took it as target practice for the usual ' aussie ' motives...
It takes great vision to see the total package---easy in retro-spect---when it is actually happening --- most just see the flotsam floating-by, merging into every-day realms of middle-class/crass australian society...

Where ya been Tel?
Thanks for explaining that Hex, I’d always wondered what happened there.
And so a great contributor to the culture of Oz climbing falls on his sword due to lack of support, eh? Jeez, why do I find that not so hard to believe! That must have been frustrating for him. Easy to be a knocker when your not a contributor.
As far as Chockstone is concerned, I see it as an unbelievable invaluable alternative for exchanging information and ideas, and is entertaining as hell to boot - I haven’t had so much fun with “Oz Climbing” in years (aside from climbing of course). Personally, I’d gladly suffer, nay welcome, a whole host of personal insults and irrelevant banter instead of seeing freedom of speech curtailed too much - although there should be some limits of course.
Yes, of course there's going to be flak and spray. That’s what happens when you set up camp in the middle of a battle-ground (figuratively speaking). There are issues for us to discuss – they’ve been around for years — we just haven’t had this opportunity before.
Cheers for all your hard work and vision here Mike – here’s a round of applause from me!
And cheers to you too Hex. I'll be happy to contribute to your thread - and I don't care who you are.

Speaking of issues and contributions, I guess now is a good time to announce that after nearly four (frustrating) years of not contributing to Rock, I’ve just started doing so again. This has come about because we’ve reached agreement whereby Wild Publications will take a meaningful responsibility for transparencies submitted to them - as per standard industry practice. This is not something that just benefits not just me, but also any other photographers who cares about the irreplaceable fruits of all their hard work. The new contributor’s guidelines offer compensation for lost or damaged images, whereas no clear binding responsibility was taken before. This is great news for all Aussie climbing photographers — and of course climbers as well!
I encourage others to contribute as well. Let’s get that show on the road again.

Work in progress...
A Short Story. By S.Carter

The wowsers were right of course (well, not at all really, but I'll just humour them for a mo...).
And so the self-proclaimed expert wiped a tear from his eye, blew his brown nose, and packed his camera bags yet once again.
He walked out the door mumbling something under his breath. But nobody could say for sure what it was.
If questions were asked, then he never knew it.
For he was already gone.

Wel, Tel , quite a bits been goin-on ! --- this is now THE space-time co-ordinate to let-rip with ya Yoka-hama-super-diggers & ya YZ250E-banter !!!
Onsight --- ya leavin' some nicely-crafted footprints on the rice-paper--- thanks dude !
Most impressed with the Adski / Kimbo / Nick / et al thread ... : Onsight --- one HUGE request : any chance of you ' colouring-this-world ' with Hexy's all-time fav' copy-right-ed-Simon-Carter- photo ?! --- It's the one,(in Rock,1997ish), of Monksy&Jane tackling the first pitch of The Free Route on the Totem Pole ---there's probably heaps of the 700+ chockstoners&assorted lurkers who haven't seen it either --- I also have a moral/ethical question in regards to that ascent, witch still has me wondering...the devil is in the detail of that photo...

Now , just what DID ' happen ' on Qurank ? ...
'...There has been a bit of negativity and @#$%! stirring on the board recently, therefore it might be a good idea for us all to brush up on our discussion-board-ettiquette...
The goal of Qurank is to be a generally positive, supporting environment, and not totally intimidating to new people coming on board. Jokes and antics do have their place (we've got to be able to laugh at ourselves) but I would like to see everyone having a net-positive-contribution...'

Good idea, and very considerate of ya H-T.
Dear (Dorithy in a red dress?), Hex;
My climbing partner refused my offer of out of date food on our last trip, but instead took his own 'even further out of date' food.
He subsequently did not finish eating it, and now has a dreaded lurgy.
What should I do ?
(PS Luv ya column)

A5 --- you suburban-blue-rinsed-worry-wart you ! ---Be very careful ! --- that '...dreaded lurgy...' may in fact be the one of them ' mystery viruses ' that spread far&wide , once they arrive ,alien-like, from O/S,thanks to visiting-climbers ; incubate& thrive in Kieran's favorite rubbish-bins ; and then ..." Dear Hex, can you explain the migratory habits of the lesser spotted southern Victorian climber who heads up to Frog for the winter. It seems that during the school holidays in winter this species can be seen frequenting the carpark at Frog usually toting an espresso coffee in between working hard climbs. They can sometimes inhabit the carpark for up to a month. Do they breed up in the warmer climates or do they in fact come here to give birth to gym rats.
Hoping to gain some sort of David Attenboroughish answer.
Totally mystified and clueless over this unusual phenomenom/phenonomonom/phenomonomon.

Well, for a start !!! --- let's get one thing straight !!!
HEX POSTED THE 20,000th POST !!! ( The new-millenium-theory proves this...)
That's because divideherlegsgiveherasquarerootandshemuliplys + a quadratic analysis - = Damo's post doesn't count because he is presently restrained in a padded-straight-jacket !!! --- therefore THAT ' post ' is a mirage/imPOSTer !!! ...
