I just heard that Jim Grelis died this morning after a long illness. Probably not known to people on this site. He did a lot of climbing in the mid 70s, mostly with La Trobe Uni (Bundoora) based people. He also played an active role in BSAR for many years.
Jim was one of our party of three that went to try the FA of Blade Ridge DF in January 77. In the end we got in to the peak but didn't set foot on the climb. Only me left of that team now, with John Taylor also dying young of cancer.
I haven't seen much of him in recent years. Time moves on inexorably. Vale Jim.

I remember Jim from the endless summers at Mt Buffalo in the mid seventies. I seem to recall that he was a kind, enthusiastic bloke who climbed and socialised with Peter Treby, Bangladesh, Peter and Kevin Lindorff and all of the other penniless granitophiles who hung around Lake Catani. Thank you for posting the sad news Kieran.

I climbed quite a bit with him , scarily the number of people dying seems to be increasing rapidly - suppose that is to be expected as we all start pushing the 3 score and 10 years . Sad news

Sad news. I knew him through BSAR rather than climbing.

Kathy,
I hardly ever visit this forum so it was a shock to see the message about Jim.
Haven't seen you for decades (NZ) but I remember meeting Jim a few times over the years, Lake Mountain springs to mind.
Hope you are well considering the circumstances.

I also hope you get this message.
Gordon Bedford
