I'm a student filmmaker at Deakin Uni and am making a caveman short film in October. I've been looking all year for a cave to be used as a location, but have struggled to find anything sufficient or not owned by Parks Vic which have rejected me.
I was wondering whether someone here knew of anywhere close to Melbourne worth checking out? What we're after is something that emulates a cave and be big enough for a clan of six to occupy.
I really appreciate your time and help here. Here's some links to the project in case you're interested.

There are plenty of caves on private land. Aka generally on farm properties. A friendly approach to the land owner will often yield good results.
Buchan caves are an option but these are probably more suited to adventurous caving than filming.
Some lava tubes might be a good option. Here is one in Bachus Marsh:

Parks Vic don't "own" any caves, they manage them on behalf of the taxpayers. I suppose even impecunious students count. If you are not going to interfere with the safety and enjoyment of the genpop - why would you even ask for permission?

How about Greenscreen and composite it ...

There are the two caves at Werribee Gorge. One would be too small for 6 people though the bigger cave is more like an overhang and might fit 6 people...
