Nepal Earthquake Talk 4/6/15 Newtown NSW

G'day All,

Mountain guide Mal Haskins will giving a presentation about the Nepal Earthquakes, their aftermath and what he has been doing since to bring about some aid before the monsoon hits. See below for more details.
The talk will be at Stucco, 197 Wilson St (same address as Adventure Time), on next Thursday 4th of June. Doors open at 630 pm for a 7 pm start. BYO beverages.

The Earthquake in Nepal on the 25th of April 2015 has caused widespread damage across the country. The 2nd earthquake on the 12th of May has only added to the hardship felt by the already effected regions and increased it by damaging other areas not effected

Mal Haskins and Sophie ward started a small independent group with the purpose of delivering aid to remote villages that were unlikey to receive any assistance for a considerable amount of time.

Initial aid was in the form of shelter, medicines, food and water as required. Later rebuilding equipment and more permanent materials were brought in as the need was seen and addressed. An Nepalese and International medical team was assembled and rotated through their base of operations in Timbu ( Helambu VDC )

As Nepal has quite a problem with communications and whilst most of the coverage of the earthquake has focused on Kathmandu, it is in the outlying villages and valleys where the most help was needed. Initial reports have been confirmed, entire villages and communities have been destroyed and with the monsoon coming things are only going to become harder

Come and listen to Mals first hand account of what the team experienced and the continuing challenges ahead that the people of Nepal will face
