Climbing is a hard thing to write about for either insiders or outsiders, without over-dramatizing it or getting all personal-growthish. I reckon this is a great little piece that avoids those pitfalls.

Great topic!

I for one love the bitter twisted writings of Nick Bullock

and CJ

I think American climber/writer Kelly Cordes is a very good.

I have always liked Greg Child's writing.

And I like the stuff I have read my British climber Mina Leslie-Wujastyk. I think we will hear a lot more from her.

Good topic.

Off the top of my head, my (by no means exhaustive) list would include...

Joe Simpson, Greg Child, and Maria Coffey rule!

Old stuff for aid & Yosemite; Royal Robbins, Warren Harding, Yvon Chouinard, Steve Roper, Galen Rowell, Doug Scott; and then more recently John Long.

Aussie author stuff:; Lincoln Hall, Jon Muir, Greg Child (again, and deservedly so), & Mikl recently.

Mountain stuff; Chris Bonnington, Edmund Hillary, (& a cast of hundreds?)

Guidebook stuff; Simon Mentz / Glenn Tempest, Simon Carter et al, Gerry Narkowitz & Co, Kevin Lindorff & Co.

Argus stuff; BA!

Chockstone stuff; Hex, ODH, & Wendy!
~> Though I am not sure they would want to be lumped together in one category... heh, heh, heh.

Walter Bonatti.

He quit climbing, but didn't quit writing.

Well I might have to write my autobiography... but that means you will have to argue amongst yourselves whether it is great climbing writing, or great footy writing.

Every now and then when your life gets complicated and the weasels start closing in, the only real cure is to load up the Kingswood and then drive like a bastard from Melbourne to Natimuk. To relax, as it were, in the womb of the desert sun. Just roll the roof back and screw it on, grease the face with white tanning butter and move out with the music at top volume, and at least a pint of absinthe......

Salad days.....
