Yes it is, nothing is available though. Go to:
http://www.parkstay.vic.gov.au/accommodation
Look at the locations list. Arapiles is in there too.

What's even worse is it just looks like they put a new page design over the old park stay website. I haven't used it so I can't tell if it's functionally the same, but the functional design looks the same, just not the template.

From what I remember of the fee proposal, Parks do not currently have the funds for a new booking system So the income from the first few years of the new fee structure will be set aside to fund a new booking system But they say it will be difficult for the camping business to be profitable without a new booking system which they cannot have until they raise the money. It's a treadmill with no way off. If they actually have a business case that stacks up they should be able to borrow the money for a new system at government rates. But I doubt that the business case stacks up.
I'm guessing the existing system won't cope when the new load comes on after July so it will be a debacle on every level..

For starters, the drop down menu on locations has MATSP as no accomodation available at the few dates i tried...so there is a disconnect there.
and, when it is going to be working, have PV agreed they wont put a cap on total bookings? just some thoughts

Not related? ... but kind of same same... the PV Greater Alpine Management Plans are just released, and we have till Mon 25 August to make any submissions.
There is a lot of reading within it/them-
http://parkweb.vic.gov.au/explore/parks/alpine-national-park/plans-and-projects/greater-alpine-management-plan/resources
In a nutshell from my brief perusal in regard to climbing;
It is prohibited in Snowy River National Park and Tara Range Park, or any Reference Area Zone within any park.
I am still trying to digest the camping proposals etc etc* etc :(
(*Lots of goals /strategies / motherhood statements, and such-like).

I had a brief look over that yesterday... One thing I noticed was that for Mt Buffalo overnight camping outside of the campsites was prohibited. This restriction may not be new but it really is a terrible approach to our parks. Technically this would make any multiday ascents illegal in Buffalo.

Yeah but it would be worth the fine just to see the ranger rap in to Big Grassy to issue the ticket ..

Nothing new about it and quite a good approach at Buffalo, a small fragile area, in my opinion.
Technically I guess it does make multi-day ascents illegal but I think that they're not really looking at that as camping. It might be different if M75 was to set up a hanging holiday camp on the north wall over the summer holidays.

I can't see them on the mobile site.

Thanks Dr Napthine and friends for trying to kill adventure. Just another way to discourage people from going outdoors and having fun.

Looks like the mobile site won't list anything that's not available. There's definitely a provision for them.
I find these little gaps in implementation between mobile and desktop sites annoying. The most recent one I discovered was that Woolworth's mobile site dropped the last ingredient from a recipe when compared with the desktop site.

Most Grampians campgrounds are now $24.40 per person per night if it is you and your climbing parter.

With a 5 and 10 percent discount for shoulder and off peak seasons - so like $0.65 on a basic campsite! How generous of them.

Of course the scale of the fee increase is absurd but the thing that gets me most is that day visitors don't pay anything, but if you are in your own van, not pitching a tent, presumably you pay the cost for a campsite even if you may not use a picnic table, fire pit or whatever. Very little if any more impact than day users yet having to pay full fees. I'd actually argue that most people in vans might actually have less impact than a lot of the day users in that they are possibly less likely to leave rubbish behind.

Is this a serious "unwritten" attempt to phase out camping in Victoria?

This will be interesting? They're really going to ask for $38 to camp at Buandik or $48 to camp at Lake Catani (at least it has showers).?? While Halls Gap caravan park charge $30 with all the facilities.
Is anyone seriously going to pay?? Could be a great boost for the caravan parks.
Public service at its best.
I feel sorry for the rangers, how embarrassing.

At Lake Catani they'll pay because there's no other accommodation on the plateau, though at this rate when the chalet reopens it may be cheaper than camping...

For those of us who prefer to have an outdoor experience in this so-called "outdoorsy" nation does this extraordinary hike in price for camping (certainly not "affordable" for all) only go to subsidise the camping facilities (where they even exist) or will a percentage go towards subsidising the indoor "roofed" accommodation that we might choose to go without?
Also, what organised protest at the scale of these price increases has been mounted to show the obvious displeasure of many in the real outdoor community?
And I come back to my feeling that as a special interest group (climbers and wild campers) we have little if any lobby power and barely any understanding amongst the wider community in Australia.

Almost $1500 to stay in a Grampians campsite for a month. Mmm, recon I could get to Thailand and stay in a bungalow for a month for that price. Time to buy a bush block near the Grampians I think.
